Benjamin Lin: A Part-Time Poker Pro
Poker professionals are all distinct from one another. It does not only mean that they differ from each other because of their playing styles, but they actually differ from each other because of a lot of factors, including their philosophies, their hometowns, their backgrounds, their experiences in poker, and their experiences in life in general. Suffice it to say that Benjamin Lin is one poker professional who is distinct from his fellow poker professionals. This is because he only plays professional poker part-time, but he has already won a World Series of Poker bracelet.
Benjamin Lin is an accountant who does not mind traveling from Maryland, where he resides, to Nevada just to play professional poker. Despite the fact that he is only a part-time poker professional, it still can be said that he gets to find time to play such game often.
In December 2002, Benjamin Lin displayed his skills in playing such game. He played a Limit Seven Card Stud game at the United States Poker Championship as he surprised many poker enthusiasts when he finished third. Such game allowed him to take home US$46,080. This poker professional once again tried his luck in the same event of the same championship tournament in September 2003. He did not win the first prize, but he placed seventh with the cash prize of US$11,200.
In December 2003, Benjamin Lin played a Limit Hold'em game at the Ho-Ho Hold'em tournament. He almost placed first but only ended as a runner up, taking home US$4,070.
Benjamin Lin's first taste of real success was on January 26, 2004 when he won the first prize in a No Limit Hold'em game of the American Poker Classic. The prize money that this poker professional received totaled to US$17,550.
Every year, Benjamin Lin makes it a point that he gets to participate in major poker tournaments. However, it was only in 2005 that he started to join events of the World Series of Poker. Between June 2005 and July 2006, this poker professional joined World Series of Poker events five times, but it was his last participation that really made a mark. On July 19, this poker professional participated in a Seven Card Stud event that made him a first prize winner. He did not only receive his very first World Series of Poker bracelet, but he was able to receive the prize money worth US$256,620.
In 2007, Benjamin Lin was seen participating in two major poker tournaments. He placed sixth in a No Limit Hold'em game of the Spring Round Up tournament in April and he placed twenty-second in a game conducted at the Inaugural Caesars Palace Classic in October.
If we could be as successful as Benjamin Lin in playing poker, we would not mind being a part-time player too, would we?
